How does it work? |
TankWatch consists of a transmitter connected directly to your
propane tank and a small receiver connected to a phone
jack in your residence or business. The system sends a
wireless signal from the tank to your residence or
business and continually monitors the level of propane
in your tank. Several times a month the receiver calls FPU to
let us know how much propane you have in your tank.
The receiver also calls FPU when the propane tank
level falls below a predetermined set point, greatly
reducing the chance of an out-of-gas event. This
service is so versatile, it can be used to monitor
tanks serving residences, seasonal homes, pool
heaters, generators, school districts, farms, public
safety sites, and construction sites to name a few. |
|
Is it reliable? |
Yes. We researched
and field tested several models before deciding on
this particular remote monitoring system. |
|
Where should I put the receiver? |
The receiver needs
to be plugged into a phone jack. Many people put it in
the kitchen or a guest bedroom. It can share a phone
line with an answering machine or a modem without
interference. |
|
Will it interrupt my telephone
calls? |
No. The monitoring
system knows when you’re on the phone, so it will not
interrupt your call. The receiver will wait until you
are not using the phone before making a call to FPU.
This communication takes about 6 seconds.
|
|
Will I see a charge on my phone
bill? |
No. The unit calls
a toll-free number. |
|
Does it make any noise?
|
No. The receiver works silently. |
|
Is it easy to install?
|
You don’t have to
do a thing. FPU provides professional installation,
setup and customer orientation; all of which takes
about an hour. |
|
What do I have to do?
|
TankWatch requires
very little maintenance on your part. If you ever
notice that the receiver does not show a red light,
check that it is plugged in. If you are certain that
the power is on and still do not see a red light, call
your local FPU office. |
|
I’m on the Keep Full Program (Automatic Refill). Why
would I want a tank monitor?
|
Our goal is to
provide the best possible service at an affordable
price. To meet this goal, FPU needs to be as efficient
as possible.
• By installing a
monitor, FPU is automatically notified and you help us
deliver the optimal amount of propane to your tank,
increasing our efficiency and helping us to reduce costs and
in-turn your delivered price per gallon down.
• Our customers’
usage patterns sometimes change. Simply adding a gas
appliance such as a decorative hearth product, water
heater, space heater, pool heater, barbeque grill or
generator can increase your fuel usage, and possibly
increase the chance that you could run out of fuel.
• With a monitor,
we can be sure your delivery arrives when you need it
most.
• With the remote
tank monitoring system, even if your residence is not
a second home, you can go away for a long weekend or
winter vacation, feeling assured that your tank level
is monitored and that we’ll be notified of a change in
your supply. Best of all, no maintenance is required. |

Qualifications - A Company Owned System may only
be installed on a propane storage tank owned by FPU
that is provided to an active or pending new customer.
A Customer Owned System may be sold to an active FPU
propane customer who either leases or owns their
propane storage tank. FPU will not sell or provide
units to non-FPU accounts. Leased customers must sign
a new 5-year gas service agreement if the Company
Owned option is selected. Customers who choose to
purchase their own remote monitoring equipment are not
required to sign a new gas service agreement.
Quality Service
Commitment - Should FPU allow a monitored tank to
run out of fuel, FPU will provide the customer with a
credit of $50.00 for a residential account and $100.00
for a commercial account. Note: If a customer’s
telephone or electric service is not working, FPU’s
remote tank monitoring system will not be able to
monitor their propane tank. This could result in a run
out that would not be covered by FPU’s Quality Service
