Your natural gas bill consists of these charges:
A customer will receive a monthly customer charge
on each bill. Many of Florida Public Utilities’ (FPU)
costs for operating and maintaining a safe and reliable system
to deliver gas to your home or business are incurred regardless
of how much gas you use or don’t use. This charge is
fixed and has been calculated on allowable expenses. It cannot
be changed by the company with out the approval from the Florida
Public Service Commission (FPSC) through a rate case.
The energy service charge, the cost per
unit of gas used, reflects the rest of Florida Public Utilities’
costs of providing service depending on the amount of gas
used. This is also a fixed rate per unit of allowable costs
and cannot be changed without the approval of the FPSC.
The purchased gas adjustment (PGA) is the
cost of the natural gas that FPU has purchased for its customers.
FPU does not make a profit on these costs but rather passes
that amount straight through to customers. The PGA fluctuates
monthly because it is calculated based upon the current monthly
price of gas, multiplied by the total therms used that month.
Taxes and fees include local and state taxes, as applicable.
Taxes are determined by the municipality or state and the
amounts charged and collected are remitted to them. Your bill
may also include past due or transferred amounts, service
initiation charges or a deposit charge, if applicable. It
may also include charges for service work performed, value
added services, such as our fuel line maintenance program
or merchandise purchased.
