What is Residential Budget Billing? elder couple
Residential Budget Billing takes the guesswork out of what you pay Florida Public Utilities each month for your energy needs.
Budget Billing is a free service that stabilizes your monthly energy costs by spreading them over the course of the year to give you balanced and predictable bills. With Budget Billing you will pay about the same amount each month. The program does not reduce the amount you pay for energy.
Many things can cause your FPU bill to fluctuate during the year. Some factors that may cause these changes are:
         • Weather
         • Fuel Costs
         • Addition of appliances
         • House guests

Stabilized billing (Budget Billing) makes it easier to manage your monthly account, and prevents spikes in the amount due on your bill.
How FPU Budget Billing is Calculated:
FPU calculates the monthly energy cost by averaging the monthly energy previously billed in the past 12 months. The average is increased by a percent to account for changes in the Purchased Gas Adjustment or the Purchase Power Adjustment. aa family
NOTE: Since Budget Bills are calculated from the past 12 energy bills, you MUST have been an FPU customer for at least 12 months with 12 monthly bills.
If you are not satisfied with Budget Billing, you can discontinue at any time. However, please keep in mind that if you discontinue Budget Billing, any balance will become due with the very next billing cycle. FPU recommends that you stay in the program for at least 12 months to understand and realize the true benefit of Budget Billing throughout the seasons.
Review of Customers on Budget Billing:
On a quarterly basis, FPU will review customers’ Budget Billing accounts. The purpose of this is to ensure that monthly budget payments are not significantly over or under stated. By conducting quarterly reviews, large increases (or decreases) in the budgeted amount due each month will be minimized.
True-Up:-- True-Up refers to the amount over, or underpaid at the end of the 12 month Budget Billing Cycle.
On an annual basis, FPU will evaluate accounts on Budget Billing. If your account has an amount due that is greater than the total of the budget payments made, that amount will be rolled into the next years’ budget amount. On the other hand, if there is an amount we owe you (meaning you paid more than you actually used), that amount will be rolled in to next years’ budget amount and the result will be a smaller budget payment due each month.
couple_child To Enroll in Budget Billing:
If you are a residential customer interested in Budget Billing, you may register online by clicking “Enroll Today” and completing the online application or by calling your local FPU office.
Prior to enrolling in budget billing, your account should be at a zero balance. This will help to ensure that the calculation for your monthly budget amount is accurate. When an application is received for Budget Billing, our Customer Service Department will contact you by phone (or e-mail – if available) to coordinate the amount of your monthly billing. Once that has been done, and your account is at a zero balance, we will finalize the Budget Billing process.
What happens if your billing is past due:
Accounts with delinquent balances must be brought to a current status to remain eligible for Budget Billing. If an account is past due, and the past due amount is not paid (and received) by the due date noted on the past due notice, the account will automatically be removed from the program.
